DAY 1: Meet in Kigali – Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Your tour guide/driver will meet you at your hotel in Kigali, give you a short briefing about your 2 day tour in Rwanda, and then you will depart for Nyungwe National Park in the Sothern Province of Rwanda.  Nyungwe is known as the largest block of mountain rainforest in East or Central Africa, and is one of the most ancient.

Nyungwe is most alluring for its primates: 13 species in all, including humankind’s closes living relative the chimpanzee, as well as the handsome L’Hoest’s monkey and perhaps hundreds-strong troop of the delightfully acrobatic Angolan Colobus.

On the way to Nyungwe, a visit to the King’s Palace Museum, the Rwanda National Museum, and the Murambi Genocide Memorial can be arranged.

Arrive at your lodge for Dinner and Overnight.  The drive from Kigali to Nyungwe takes approximately 6 hours.

Overnight: Luxury, Midrange, or Budget Facilities.

DAY 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe National Park – Return to Kigali

Enjoy an early morning breakfast before proceeding to park headquarters for your briefing. Trekking at Nyungwe National Park begins at 6:00 AM. You will enter into the forest before dawn and may find the chimpanzees still sleeping in their nests.  Sometimes you will also be able to see primate species such as Colobus Monkey, Red-tailed Monkey, Dent’s Mona Monkey, Olive Baboon, and Grey-cheeked Mangabey.  You will also have the opportunity to see some of the more than 300 species of birds that have been recorded in Nyungwe National Park, such as the Rwenzori Turaco.

Return to your lodge after trekking for lunch and return to Kigali for your evening flight.
