These 3 days Eastern lowland gorilla tour to Congo takes into consideration visitors arriving through Kigali in Rwanda or Kisoro in Uganda. Kahuzi-Biega national park is one of best places to go for a safari in Congo. Kahuzi-Biega national park is the only home to the Eastern lowland gorillas. About 4,800 Eastern lowland gorillas remain in the wild. Their immediate cousins the Western Lowland gorillas inhabit the equatorial forests of central Africa. Tracking lowland gorillas generally takes a shorter time – lasting between 1-4 hours. If coming from Kigali, you will go through the Cyangugu border to Congo. If you are arriving from Kigali, A guide from Mission Africa Safaris will pick you from your hotel or airport and take you to Congo using the Cyangugu border. Get ready to view the beautiful rolling hills of Rwanda’s countryside and watch out for the scenic views of the forests and primates along the road passing through the Nyungwe national park. You will then head to the Kahuzi-Biega national park. Visitors coming though Uganda will cross to Congo from the Bunagana border from Kisoro town. You will have Dinner and sleep at either Orchid safari Lodge or the budget Hotel Horizon.
Lowland gorilla trekking at the Kahuzi-Biega park starts with registration at the park offices. You will get up early and have breakfast before heading for the park. After registration you will be briefed on the rules to follow while tracking lowland gorillas. You will be assigned one of the four habituated Eastern lowland Gorilla groups then go out tracking in the forest. Once sighted, observe as much as you can. Try to take as many photos and videos as you can. The park has other mammals, primates and several bird species that might interest you. On completion, you will head back to your lodge to have lunch and freshen up. You will then have an opportunity to visit community homes, the Kibati waterfalls, Buhavu town, the Mbayo tea estate, the research center and take a walk through Kahuzi- Biega. You will have Dinner and sleep at either Orchid safari Lodge or the budget Hotel Horizon.
You will wake up to breakfast and head for Kigali though the Changungu border. Along the route, our guide will stopover and allow you to visit the palace of the King of Nyanza and his tomb together with the wife. You will also get a chance to visit the Butare Museum. You will arrive in Kigali evening where you will have your dinner and overnight.
